The Association of Media and Public Relations Consultants in Israel has for the past 17 consecutive years held the "Roaring Lion" competition for excellence and this year marked 60 years since the founding of the Association. According to the Association's announcement, the projects in the competition were submitted by public relations firms, both large and small, spokespersons offices of government and public offices, and NGOs and organizations of various types. The projects underwent an objective and egalitarian judging process by media, professionals, journalists and academics.
The head of the judges' panel this year was Prof. Eli Avraham from the University of Haifa's Department of Communication. According to the Association, "The standard of the projects submitted was of the highest level and the competition's judges said that the broad range of projects and the wealth of creativity of the work made the job of judging particularly interesting and challenging," the announcement said.
The firm, which won the competition's highest prize, "Campaign of the Year" is OH! Orenstein Hoshen Media and Strategy. This is a firm that was founded by Hedan Orenstein and Itamar Hoshen, and which specializes in crisis management and campaigns for companies and business organizations, managing personal reputations for businesspeople, and senior and prominent figures in the legal sector.
The prize was awarded to OH! for the media activities it carried out for the global law firm DLA PIPER. The aim of the campaign, which was based solely on classic public relations work, with no advertizing budget or additional marketing, was to communicate to the law firm's relevant target audience, the leading business companies in Israel, about the business and legal capabilities of the firm overseas; to increase recognition and familiarity with it; and consequently to enlarge the scope of its business activities. All this took place within a saturated domestic lawyers market and with the banning of publicizing the legal and business activities of the firm's clients. Within this framework, OH! conducted a complex strategy, on the one hand, in order to dispel the concerns of Israeli firms regarding the 'foreign giant,' while on the other hand – aided by the firm's connections with local clients.
The technology campaign prize was awarded to OH! for activities conducted in order to launch the LABS TLV shared workspace for high tech companies. As part of this project, which included entering a most competitive market that included dozens of similar players, some of them dominant, the firm conducted a broad scale marketing and branding campaign, which was based on creative public relations and collaboration with the domestic and foreign media, in Israel and abroad. The campaign yielded more than 10 items and exposure worth millions of shekels. Today, even after the opening of two additional floors in the Azrieli Sarona tower, the workspace is fully occupied by leading high tech companies.
